My wife and I booked a sunset tour of the Goose Pond FWA in early March. We saw about 32 species of birds including Whooping Cranes, Sandhill Cranes, White Pelicans, Northern Harriers, Bald Eagles and Short Eared Owls. David Rupp knew just where to look…
David took us on a birding tour around Yellowwood State Forest. He has a great ear for bird calls, which definitely upped the amount of birds we were able to spot. We saw a number of species our group had not seen previously.
We spent a morning wandering around Goose Pond—Dave took us to several spots to show us a large variety of birds. He was pleasant, easy to spend time with, very knowledgeable, and just made it a wonderful day.
We had terrific looks at Cerulean Warbler, Kentucky Warbler, Blue-winged Warbler, Prairie Warbler and several others. We spent most of our time in a slightly remote portion of Yellowwood State Forest. The forest vegetation was unforgettable with the many shades of brilliant green, especially for those of us from drought-plagued California! David knew all of the bird calls as well as songs, which it always much appreciated when looking for little songbirds, and they were singing their hearts out!
This was a wonderful, rather magical experience. We’ve lived within an hour of Goose Pond and had never been. David led us on a four-hour guided tour (3-7) pm that began with a closeup sighting of a huge bald eagle in her nest…
From the first stop to the last, David found for us all our “wish list” species with a few added treats at sunset like the American Woodcocks and the coyote chorus. So knowledgeable and informative, just a perfect way to spend time with family or friends. Indigo Birding Tours never disappoint.
