Nature Day Camps for Kids
Give your child a treat this summer… a chance to immerse him or herself in a week of nature exploration and learning at the IndiGo Birding Nature Day Camp for Kids! Does your child thrive in small-group settings? Does your child learn better by doing, not watching? Does your child have a fascination with birds, bugs, and the outdoors? Then this might be the camp you are looking for!
Scott Evans will join me in leading three weeks full of discovery at Mt. Gilead Friends Retreat, a 60-acre paradise only a few miles northeast of Bloomington. The property has a beautiful creek, both forest and field habitats, plenty of hiking trails, and a picnic shelter for crafts and lunch. Each day will have an ecological theme. Most days will also include a hike, a “bird of the day,” creek exploration, a nature-related game, and much, much more!
This is the third year of IndiGo Birding Nature Day Camp for Kids. Previously, I have instructed children in several camp settings: A year as the camp naturalist at Amigo Centre in southern Michigan, three years of running nature day camps for the Indianapolis Parks Department, and even time supervising after-school programming for the YMCA in Asheville, NC. More recently I have led the Li’l Hikers outings for Sycamore Land Trust. Now I’m excited to continue the tradition at Mt. Gilead of connecting people to nature!
