Join me for a trip to Jennings and Jackson counties in celebration of spring!
The first stop is the beautiful 179-acre Calli Nature Preserve just east of North Vernon. We will take a 2-mile hike along the banks of the Muscatatuck River in search of wildflowers, songbirds, and scenery. This state nature preserve is home to one of the best displays of Virginia Bluebells you’ll ever come across
From there, we’ll drive to Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge. We will have a picnic lunch by the visitors center, then drive the auto tour loop in search of shorebirds, waterfowl, and more! On our way back to Bloomington, we’ll stop and search specific fields and pastures for grassland birds like Bobolink, American Golden-plover, and Eastern Meadowlark.
This will be a long day but likely a very rewarding one. We will meet at Bloomingfoods East at 7:30 and return about 4:00. I’ll have snacks, drinks, binoculars, spotting scopes, field guides, and more! Just bring a picnic lunch and dress for the weather!
